The Berkeley Changemaker® Summer 2024 Pre-College Programme offers high school students the chance to live on campus and experience summer at UC Berkeley. This program builds on the university's history of inclusivity and its mission to make a positive impact on society. The curriculum focuses on critical thinking, communication, and collaboration, and offers a wide range of disciplines to explore. Through lectures, faculty interviews, and team assignments, students develop a changemaking mindset and learn how to turn their ideas into action. For more information, visit here.

• Programme name: Berkeley Changemaker Pre-College Programme

• Programme Period: June 16 – June 28, 2024 at UC Berkeley

• Target Audience: Academically high achieving Year 12 and 13 high school students (Secondary 5 – 6) between the ages of 16 – 17

• Tuition Fees: USD 6,719* (What's more, upon receiving an offer from UC Berkeley, Members of HKU Academy for the Talented and HKU Tracker will automatically be qualified to apply for the HKU Engineering Academy for the Talented programme (programme code: ACTENGIN2024) or HKU Business Academy for the Talented (programme code: ACTBUS2024) for a discounted programme fee of only HK$500 per programme!)

  • Tuition fees cover: Lectures, accommodation, meals, orientation, excursions and activities, and on-site support (additional charges may apply).

  • Please note that students will bear the responsibility for the cost of flights to and from Hong Kong and Oakland, as well as all other miscellaneous expenses.

• Recommended Flight Schedule:

  • Departing from Hong Kong to Berkeley: June 14, 2024 (Arriving at Oakland International Airport on June 14, 2024) (Time: To be confirmed)

  • Departing from Berkeley to Hong Kong: June 29 2024 (Arriving at Hong Kong International Airport on June 30, 2024) (Time: To be confirmed)

• Accommodation:

  • Included at Berkeley’s Hall of Residence with breakfast.

  • Check-in date: June 15, 2024

  • Check-out date: June 29, 2024

Registration:

1. Please create and complete the UC Berkeley application and email HKU Academy at talented@hku.hk informing of your application submission to UC Berkeley.

2. To apply for the HKU Engineering Academy for the Talented programme (programme code: ACTENGIN2024) or HKU Business Academy for the Talented (programme code: ACTBUS2024) with special discount of HK$500 per programme, please email the admission offer letter issued by UC Berkeley, along with the payment receipt, to HKU Academy at talented@hku.hk.

3. Apply for the programme via HKU application system (link).

4. The programme fee will be adjusted once we have verified the documents.

* The programme fee includes tuition, accommodation with breakfast, course materials, a welcome kit, and transportation from the airport to accommodation in Berkeley for those who choose the recommended flights.

* Please note that the programme fee does not include flights and accommodation in Hong Kong. Applicants are responsible for arranging their own travel to and from their home country, as well as transportation between Oakland and Hong Kong. Our HKU programme coordinator will contact the admitted students by the end of February 2024 to provide more specific information regarding further arrangements.

* The programme is subject to cancellation if there are insufficient applications.
